TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATION

The student teachers of CTE (PGT) showed their appreciation for their teachers by organising a special Teacher’s Day programme on the 5th September 2014 for the teachers. The Principal, the teachers and also the non-teaching staffs participated in the programme with full enthusiasm. The programme came to an end with a lunch prepared by the students for all the members of the Institution.

NATIONAL LITERACY DAY

To mark the occasion, the Literacy Committee of the College on the 8th September, 2014 put up a bulletin display regarding the importance of celebrating this day to promote consciousness about extraordinary value of literacy and the requirement to mobilize public opinion in favour of literacy which is a human right.

LITERARY COMPETITION:

The Literary Committee of the College organised a one-day competition on poetry and essay writing on the 29th September 2014. This was carried out with the intention of identifying student-teachers’ creativity and fostering the spirit of participation.

COLLEGE WEEK

One of the significant aspects of teaching in the modern day context is the all round development of the child. The College recognises this need and in its endeavour to engage the student-teachers in various co-curricular organises College Week every year. This year the event revolves around a central theme ‘Radiance 2014’ proposed and selected by the student-teachers in consultation with the teaching staff.

The various committees – Literary, Sports and Socio-cultural along with the Student Council, worked together in order to conduct the programmes smoothly and make it a success.

The entire student-teachers community is divided into four groups named as Spark, Flash, Blaze and Dazzle. Radiance 2014 commenced on 11th October 2014 where Dr. (Mrs.) B. H. Buam unveiled the theme of the College Week 2014 and flagged off the marathon.

To commemorate the Golden Jubilee year of the College, the Jubilee T-Shirt was also released by Dr. (Mrs.) B. H. Buam.

Various activities ranging from indoor to outdoor sports, literary activities like debate, quiz to cultural activities like singing, dancing, flower arrangement, rangoli competitions were conducted during the College Week.

The Grand Finale of the College Week was held on 17th October 2014 where Mrs. D. Syiem (Retired Director Arts and Culture, Govt. of Meghalaya) graced the occasion as  Chief Guest.

TEACHING AIDS EXHIBITION

The different teaching aids prepared by the student-teachers as part of the practical activities were exhibited on 14th October 2014 in the College premises. Dr. L. Cajee, Controller of Examination, NEHU, Shillong graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Students of St. Mary’s College of Teacher Education Shillong and Garo Union Secondary School attended the exhibition.

SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN

On the 2nd October 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the country’s biggest ever cleaning drive, ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ (Clean India Mission) on the birth anniversary Mahatma Gandhi. The mission seeks participation of all citizens from different age group in order to fulfil Mahatma Gandhi’s mission of ‘Clean India’. The College of Teacher Education (PGT) Shillong, also participate in this mission in collaboration with the ‘Partners of Pla iew’ on the 14th November 2014.

RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS

The College of Teacher Education (PGT), Shillong celebrated the National Unity Day on 31st October 2014. This was conducted in the College campus where the Principal of the College, Dr. (Mrs.) V. Kharmawphlang gave a speech followed by a brief talk on Sardar Balabhai Patel by Dr. (Ms.) B. H. Buam. The Rashtriya Eka Diwas pledge was read by the Principal, Staff and students of the College and concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.

SWEEP ACTIVITIES

As part of the initiative undertaken by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, a talk and interaction on the electoral process was conducted in the College of Teacher Education (PGT) Shillong on the 5th November, 2014 at 3:00 PM.  Shri. P. T. Passah, MCS and Shri. A. S. Mukhim, MCS, were deputed from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District to be the resource persons. Both the officers gave a talk and interact with the students of the College on a number of queries with regard to the electoral process.

COLLEGE PICNIC

The one year B.Ed. course offers an array of experiences from theoretical to practical as well as recreational opportunities for the students. As a recreational activity, the College picnic took place on the 6th November 2014, where the student teachers went to Kyrdemkhla accompanied by the Principal of the College, teaching and non-teaching staff.

 

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

WORKSHOP ON MIND MAPPING

The College organised a one day workshop on mind mapping on the 10th September 2014. The resource person was Mr. Edelbert B. Majaw, Asst. Professor, Education Department, Synod College. The workshop is intended to acquaint and equip the students-teachers with innovative practices which will enhance teaching-learning ability of student- teachers.

EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

The College of Teacher Education (PGT), Shillong went for a five days exchange programme to Loreto College, B.Ed. Department, Kolkatta, from 24th – 31st January 2015 where Dr. (Ms.) B. H. Buam and Mrs. B. Tron along with a group of 32 student teachers, attended the programme. 

The programme has enlightened  both the faculty members and the students on the various aspects of teaching-learning which helped them to embrace a member of positive ideas and information through interaction with the faculty members and students of Loreto College, B.Ed. Department, Kolkatta.

TRAINING ON LIFE SKILLS

The College of Teacher Education (PGT) will organise two day training on Life Skill Education and Capacity Building. The programme will be held on the 12th – 13th March 2015 in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Tamil Nadu.
